Hello hello hello, my name is Vicki, this is my sign name, and this is where I live, in Whangarei in the North.
From the time I was 7 to 12 no one taught me sign language, there was just nothing. Later my mum took me to Kelston Deaf School, that was around 1981, somewhere around then. She took me to the boarding school there.
In my school classroom my teacher would teach me sign, I would learn more signs. I started off slowly then built up my sign language, then when I was 12, suddenly I could sign fluently, it had a big impact on me. I love sign language, I’m always learning, and I love being with the others in the Deaf community. I am interested to keep learning more in the future.
