Part 2: Getting my jab

Post by Hemi Hema

Right I'm wanting to tell you about my vaccination.

I drove up and was approached by a nurse wearing a mask. I could see she was talking to me but I didn't understand a word she said! There was no way I could lip read and when I signed that I was Deaf she was taken aback. It was a real barrier, a problem.

Then she started asking me questions but there was no interpreter. Questions: ID, date of birth and my home address.

Then I could go and have my jab. Communication was a real problem you know.

You recall when I told you that when I made the booking I told them I was Deaf and they confirmed they would organise an interpreter but… there wasn't one there.

Just sharing my story.

Thank you
