Masks are frustrating

Post by Saynab

Hello Deaf community! I want to introduce myself first, my name is Saynab and this is my sign name. I live in Auckland. I am originally from Somalia but left and moved to NZ in 1998 because of the war that was happening there.

Anyway, I am here to talk to you about my experience through COVID-19. Whenever I go places where there are other people, like the doctors or to buy things at the shops, for example, most people would be wearing their masks to protect themselves and others. This made it difficult for me because I struggled to lipread what people were saying. I couldn't see their mouths through their masks, and I found it really frustrating not being able to understand what they were saying. I wish that more people wore the plastic masks that I could see through so that I could see their mouths and it was easier to lipread what they were saying.

Did you have the same experience as me? It was really frustrating! But I do understand that we all need to wear masks to protect ourselves and others.

That's all I have to say. I hope you all have a good day as well as a good night. Thank you for watching me.
